Stories First Always

We’re on a mission to put the focus back where it belongs: the story being told by the artists and writers of the world.

Helia Lit was created to celebrate the creators brave enough to tell the truth through their work. The writers, the artists, and the photographers who make us feel a little less alone in the world.

The ones who make us laugh. The ones who make us cry. The ones who don’t shy away from the grit, but don’t abandon hope either.

We believe stories bring people together, which is why we’re bringing back the guild: a community for artists and writers to be seen, be heard, and let their art speak for itself.

“Fiction is the way to cross barriers and understand others.”

Raven Willow Riley

“Painting is just another way of keeping a diary.”

Pablo Picasso

“Poetry is giving yourself permission to feel whatever you need to feel, no matter the emotion.”

Megan Stewart

Open Calls For Summer

...which is July, August, and September

Submissions are open right now for all categories: short fiction, poetry submissions, and artwork. We accept work year-round. No reading periods. No closed submission windows.

This summer, we want stories that are all about the Summer Djinn. You have the freedom to interpret it any way you want!

The monkey’s paw. Getting what you need instead of what you want. The perspective of the wish granter. You get what you wish for. You name it. Whatever you create for this theme of the Summer Djinn, we want to see it!

If you've been sitting on something that fits, now's the time.
